Familiarize yourself with the format of the MCAS test prior to
taking it.
This may seem obvious — and it is! But it is also extremely important.
Knowing something about the format reduces uncertainty. Familiarizing yourself
with the kinds of questions that appear on the test helps prevent you from
becoming rattled, a normal reaction to being thrust into something unfamiliar.
The nature of the test questions is fairly consistent from year to year. In
addition, the people who write the test questions are tricky. Fortunately, the
types of traps they use are easily identified — if you know what to look
for and are familiar with them.
By knowing what to expect, you can prepare for the test both mentally and
through study and practice. And, if you are prepared, you will be more
confident. This confidence and its accompanying reduced anxiety and nervousness
will allow you to relax and get a good night's sleep before the test and then
do your best on the day of the test.
